Your Christian friend may be interested in the book "The Immortality Key", which makes a compelling case that early Christian eucharists may have been psychedelic in nature.
I wouldn't say one gram dried is a microdose at all. Microdosing is supposed to be just below the edge of definitely feeling any effects, and the most usual low-dose definite effect is simple restlessness or anxiety. Also, it's very difficult to reliably microdose with mushrooms.
Batches and strains differ, but with average Cubensis-style one gram dried is much further into real psychedelia, and in fact, I've had the most amazing spiritual but whacky trip on just about 1,5g. Unless you want to go e.g. 5g to make sure you land on the out-of-this-world mystical plane, 2,5-3g is usually quite enough for a full-blown psychedelic experience with a chance to touch upon ego death and/or universal consciousness, then gently come back, enjoying the visuals (they seem to be stronger with less experienced and/ or younger people). For beginners, it's also better to not start out too low, because it might not ever properly take off, leaving you feeling uncomfortable and anxious.

The universe is as conscious and alive as you are.
