Rav. I am 74 and been happily married since age 50. My first wife was a fashion model, very pretty, but also very narcissistic. Her preoccupation with appearances became tedious, steering her to life choices that served her priorities over mine. After 14 years, she had an affair with the minister of her church and they have been married ever since. I was single for 8 years after our divorce and my dating preferences shifted to compatibility of interests and priorities over all else. My wife and I are best friends sharing a lifestyle that suits us both very well.

The honesty here is refreshing. Naming your HRV, naming the fatigue, naming the pull between external pursuits and internal regulation — it's the kind of transparency that makes growth feel less lonely. Also, I relate to needing 10+ hours of sleep to feel functional and still not getting there. Thank you for writing this publicly.
